New Delhi: Rohit Sharma’s chances in the 2027 World Cup ODI tournament are back on the table, but his former teammate in India, Ajinkya Rahane, doesn’t see any room for confusion about the seasoned opener being in the squad.

What is the controversy about?

Rohit Sharma captained the Indian side in the ODI World Cup 2023 where India performed well in their home venue. But Will Rohit Sharma play in the ODI Indian team for the coming ODI World Cup 2027?

Though Rohit Sharma is one of the best batsmen in ODI cricket format, but age and fitness of Rohit, who is 39 years old, have always been a matter of discussions. Every ODI series of India has had Rohit Sharma's retirement and career as the main topic of discussion.

What about the performance?

Considering the stats of Rohit between October 2025 till date, Rohit has done extremely well for himself in his last 15 one day internationals. He has made two great scores of more than 120 runs and crossed the 70-run mark on four occasions. In his latest one day international against England at Lord’s, Rohit has played a fantastic innings of 138 runs.

What about the rumors of retirement?

Before the third match against England, several reports claimed that the selection committee had decided to move forward with a view to the 2027 World Cup. But Rohit proved those reports to be mere rumours with the sound of his bat.

What did Ajinkya Rahane say?

In light of all the queries regarding Rohit's future, his former teammate Ajinkya Rahane has come up with some very crucial suggestions for the selectors. According to Rahane, the entire strategy of judging the player through series after series is absolutely incorrect.

Rahane thinks that BCCI and selectors need to talk to Rohit. Rahane says, if you want Rohit to perform in the 2027 World Cup, then assure him today. A player can only perform when his mind is at ease.
