Rajasthan School Summer Vacation: Holidays Reduced to 35 Days
Holidays will now start from May 17 and will continue until June 20, 2026, to accommodate 214 teaching days and International Yoga Day on June 21.
Jaipur: The Rajasthan Education Department has released the Shivira Panchang (Academic Calendar 2026-27) for the 2026-2027 session. In the update, department stated that the summer vacation will begin on May 17 and will continue until June 20, 2026.
This means that, while previously, children would get a long 40-45 day vacation (until June 30), now they will only get 35 days to enjoy at home in the scorching heat.
Why did the government reduce the holidays?
Education Minister Madan Dilawar recently held an important meeting with teacher organizations at the Education Complex in Jaipur. The focus was on improving the quality of education and the safety of children. Keeping this in mind, the number of teaching days has been increased to 214 this time. When the number of teaching days increases, it is obvious that the number of holidays will also decrease.
Another reason is International Yoga Day, which is celebrated every year on June 21. Previously, schools were closed until June 30, and teachers and students had to come to school for a day during the holidays for Yoga Day. This means that schools will reopen on June 21, and everyone will be able to perform yoga together comfortably, without the worry of any holidays being cancelled.
What about the temperature?
Temperature has crossed 46 degrees in Rajasthan and Jaisalmer is currently the hottest. The temperature here has reached 46.4 degrees Celsius. Similarly, Barmer recorded 46.0 degrees Celsius, Kota 45.7 degrees Celsius, and Churu 45.3 degrees Celsius.
According to the latest update from IMD Jaipur, a heatwave warning has been issued for many parts of western and northeastern Rajasthan for the next three to four days, with temperatures expected to reach 44 to 45 degrees Celsius in some areas of the northwestern districts. However, dust storms accompanied by thunderstorms are expected this afternoon in western and northern areas, and light drizzle is expected at some locations, which may provide some relief from the heat.
Did government change school timing?
In light of the intense heat, school timings have been changed in many districts. To provide relief to children in Jaipur, Kota, Chittorgarh, Jaisalmer, and Dausa, classes are being held in the morning shift.
In Kota, the timings for classes up to 12th grade have been changed from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm. In Dausa, the timings for classes up to 8th grade will be from 7:30 am to 12:00 pm from April 24 to May 2.
In Jaisalmer and Chittorgarh, the timings for children up to 8th grade have also been changed from 7:30 am to 12 pm.
