Delhi, UP, Bihar, West Bengal On Heavy Rain Alert As Monsoon Gains Strength

New Delhi: The monsoon has picked up pace once again, bringing heavy rainfall across North India, while several parts of Northeast and Eastern India continue to grapple with flood-like conditions. On Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heavy to very heavy rainfall alert for states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, West Bengal, Odisha, and Maharashtra. Thunderstorms, lightning, and waterlogging are also likely in several areas.

How will the weather be in Delhi-NCR today?

It was cloudy throughout the day in Delhi-NCR on Tuesday, and there was drizzle in many places. According to IMD, there will be light to moderate rain on Wednesday also. Heavy rain, thunder and lightning may occur in some areas. For this reason, a yellow alert has been issued. The Meteorological Department estimates that this trend of rain will continue in Delhi till August 10.

Where is the maximum rain in UP and Bihar?

There are chances of good rain in both the western and eastern parts of UP till Wednesday-Thursday. There is an alert of heavy to very heavy rain in many districts. In addition to the rains already occurring in Bihar, there may be heavy rain even today. Due to this, there is a possibility of waterlogging in low-lying areas. 

Heavy rain warning for which states?

• Jharkhand: Heavy rain with wind speeds of 50-60 km/hr in Sahibganj, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Giridih, Bokaro.
• Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh: Monsoon will be fully active.
• Maharashtra: Possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in Konkan-Goa and Central Maharashtra.

What are the conditions of Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana?

A new cyclonic system may form in Rajasthan around 6-7 August. This will make the rain more intense. Between August 7 and 10, heavy to very heavy rain may occur in Jaipur, Kota, Bharatpur and Ajmer. Rain will continue in Punjab-Haryana also. Many areas of Punjab, including Bathinda, have already been flooded.

Why has tension increased in North-East and Eastern India?

Due to continuous rains in Assam and Odisha, there are flood-like conditions at many places. There is also a warning of heavy rain for West Bengal, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Arunachal, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
