Confusion over Kohli and Rohit's 2027 World Cup participation: BCCI may take a big decision

Virat Kohli's and Rohit Sharma's participation in the 2027 World Cup is uncertain. The BCCI will soon discuss their future. There is doubt about selection due to age, limited matches, and changes in the team

Sports News: When Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirement from T20Is soon after winning the T20 World Cup last year, it was seen as a strategic move to focus on their Test and ODI careers. A few months later, when the duo took a break from Test cricket as well, speculations were rife that their aim was to keep themselves fit and ready for the 2027 ODI World Cup, the only ICC tournament the two players have not won together.

Rapid change in the Indian team

However, now things are not as clear as before. Amidst the rapid changes in the Indian team, new faces can now be given a chance in the ODI team as well. In such a situation, the possibility that both Kohli and Rohit will be able to remain in the team till the 2027 World Cup is diminishing.

The 2023 World Cup was a golden opportunity for Rohit to win his first title and Kohli to win his second, but the defeat against Australia left this dream unfulfilled. According to a report, Rohit is still preparing himself for this goal. At the same time, Kohli also called it his priority in an RCB program.

Discussion on the future of both the players

Nevertheless, BCCI's plan seems to be different. According to reports, the board is now going to discuss the future of both the players. A source said that we still have more than two years for the 2027 World Cup. But both Kohli and Rohit will be close to 40 at that time. In such a situation, while making long-term plans for the team, it will be necessary to give a chance to some new players as well.

During this period, India has to play a total of 27 ODIs between Tests and T20s. If Kohli and Rohit play only ODIs and that too sporadically, it may be difficult for them to stay in form. The next time the two will join the team, it could be on the Australia tour in October, where India will play three ODIs and five T20s.

India tour of South Africa and New Zealand

After this, India has to play three ODIs against South Africa and then New Zealand in November. Although this time is not long, this is not an ideal situation for the aging players. No decision on the participation of Kohli and Rohit will be taken forcibly; rather, it will be decided keeping in mind their mental and physical condition.

The source also said that both the players have given a lot to the country in white-ball cricket. Now the decision will be based on their state of mind and body. But before the start of the ODI cycle, a transparent and professional conversation will definitely take place with them.
