Chennai: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out of IPL 2026 due to an injury. Ahead of the crucial clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday, the biggest question facing Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad is: who should be included in the Playing XI to replace Khaleel? As Khaleel was a regular fixture in the team's bowling attack, filling the void left by his absence will be no easy task.

Could Mukesh Choudhary Become CSK's 'Swing King'?

Mukesh Choudhary is considered the most fitting replacement for Khaleel Ahmed. Much like Khaleel, he is a left-arm bowler and possesses the ability to swing the new ball both ways. He made a name for himself during IPL 2022, where he claimed 16 wickets across 13 matches. His greatest asset is his knack for taking early wickets during the Powerplay. Although he hasn't received many opportunities over the last three years, Khaleel's absence could prove to be a turning point in his career.

Who is Ramkrishna Ghosh?

The 28-year-old Ramkrishna Ghosh is currently one of the most talked-about names in domestic cricket. Ghosh's greatest strength lies in his raw pace, consistently clocking speeds in excess of 140 km/h. He has previously played under Ruturaj Gaikwad's captaincy in domestic cricket. During the Vijay Hazare Trophy (2025-26), he bagged 17 wickets in 7 matches—a campaign highlighted by a historic spell of 7/42 against Himachal Pradesh. Ghosh is also adept at coming down the order and hitting towering sixes, which could add significant depth to the team's batting lineup.

Is Opportunity Beckoning for Zachary Foulkes?

Given that Chennai is currently playing with only three overseas players, there is a distinct possibility that young New Zealand bowler Zachary Foulkes could be given an opportunity. The 23-year-old pacer brings with him the experience of having taken 77 wickets across 68 T20 matches. Foulkes has represented New Zealand in all three formats of the game—Tests, ODIs, and T20s. He could step in to replace Akeal Hosein or be included as the fourth overseas player to provide better balance to the team composition.
