Nagpur: After a shocking 1-2 ODI series defeat to New Zealand, Team India will aim to salvage some pride in the upcoming five-match T20I series which starts at the Vidharbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on Wednesday. With the T20 World Cup set to begin in less than 20 days, this series holds extreme importance for both teams.

How will the pitch play out?

The surface at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur is usually suitable for batting since it is flat in nature, which helps in building up a high-scoring game. The pacers might enjoy some bounce during the early stages of the game, but as the match progresses, the batters are expected to dominate. Bowling first will be ideal and anything over 180 runs can be considered a good total.

What landmark beckons Suryakumar Yadav?

Team India skipper Suryakumar Yadav is going to play his 100th T20 International match today. This is a special occasion for him, as he will become only the fourth player from his country to have played 100 T20Is. However, on this special occasion, his focus will be on improving his poor form that has persisted for the past year. Before Surya, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Hardik Pandya have already played 100 matches.

How is Suryakumar Yadav’s current form?

Suryakumar Yadav, who once scored runs all over the ground, managed only 218 runs in 19 innings last year at an average of 13.62. His strike rate was also 123.16, which is surprising for a batsman considered a master of the T20 format. Suryakumar Yadav's excellent captaincy and the team's victories had so far overshadowed his poor form. But the situation has changed now. The T20 World Cup is starting on February 7th, and Team India cannot afford to have its captain and a top T20 specialist out of form.

How has the Vidarbha Cricket Association prepared for the first T20I?

The five-match T20 series between India and New Zealand begins today. The first match will be played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur, where the 45,000-capacity stands are expected to be packed. This series is a trial run for both teams ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026.  Both teams will be giving their all to win the series to boost their morale for the World Cup. This is expected to make the series highly exciting, and the enthusiasm will be palpable among the spectators.

Consequently, the Nagpur police have made extensive preparations to handle any potential disturbances at the stadium. According to media reports, stringent security measures have been put in place, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI). AI is being used for crowd management and to create multiple layers of security.

How is AI being used for this match?

Reports claim that this is the first time in the country that AI is being used for security and crowd management. An NDTV report claims that while cricket fans are engrossed in the excitement of the match, AI cameras will monitor the movements of every single person in the crowd in the spectator stands. This will help in controlling criminals who might be present in the crowd with malicious intentions. It will also help in apprehending anyone who manages to smuggle a weapon into the stadium.
