What did the Supreme Court say?
A PIL was filed in the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of the match between India and Pakistan scheduled to be held on 14 September in Asia Cup 2025. The advocate who filed this petition argued that this match is on Sunday and if the matter is not listed on Friday then the petition will become useless.
On this, the bench of Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice Vijay Bishnoi said, "What is the hurry in this? The match is on this Sunday? What can we do in this? Let it happen. The match should continue". During this, the advocate said that even if my case is bad, please get it listed. On this the bench refused.
What is said in the petition?
Four law students led by Urvashi Jain filed this PIL. It states that organizing a cricket match with Pakistan after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and Operation Sindoor sends a message against national dignity and public sentiment.
It said that cricket between two countries is meant to show harmony and friendship but after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, when our people were martyred and our soldiers put everything at stake, a match with Pakistan will send a wrong message to the country.
Feelings can get hurt
The petition states that while our soldiers are sacrificing their lives, we are going to celebrate the game with the same country which is sheltering terrorists. The petitioners further said, "This may also hurt the sentiments of the families of the victims who lost their lives at the hands of Pakistani terrorists. The dignity of the country and the safety of the citizens come before entertainment". Meanwhile, politics has also started regarding the India-Pakistan match.
Politics started in the country
Politics has also started regarding this match which is going to start on 14th September. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut has expressed his displeasure over this match. Sanjay Raut Slams Pakistan Cricket
Sanjay Raut said, "If water and blood don't flow together then how will blood and cricket go together"? He said that Operation Sindoor is not over yet. Sindoor of 26 women was removed in Pahalgam. Their pain, sorrow and anger still continue. Even today they are in shock and now you people are going to play cricket with Pakistan. This is shamelessness and treason.
He questioned the BJP, the central government, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, the RSS and the Bajrang Dal whether they had any role in this matter? Sanjay Raut said that his anger was not with the government but with the BJP and other organizations.
