Heavy Rain Alert Across Rajasthan for Five Days, Active Monsoon Set to Intensify

Jaipur: Monsoon activity is increasing in the Rajasthan due to the impact of a deep depression. Heavy rain is expected in several districts, including Jaipur. The Jaipur Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in southeastern Rajasthan from July 31 to August 2. Department Director Radheshyam Sharma said the monsoon has once again picked up speed in Rajasthan.

What did IMD say?

With the onset of Sawan, rainfall is expected to intensify in the state. As a depression over eastern India moves westward, the monsoon is expected to remain active in many parts of Rajasthan for the next five to six days. The India Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in eastern Rajasthan from July 30 to August 3, while rainfall activity is also expected to increase in western Rajasthan.

According to the Meteorological Center, Jaipur, the deep depression over eastern India has weakened into a depression. This system is currently located over northern Odisha, southern Jharkhand, and the adjoining Chhattisgarh region. It is expected to gradually move westward over the next 24 hours. Monsoon activity is increasing in Rajasthan due to this system.

Where is rain expected?

Rainfall is expected at many places in Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Kota, and Udaipur divisions over the next several days. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible at isolated places in Kota and Udaipur divisions and surrounding districts of southeastern Rajasthan. Rainfall activity is also expected to increase in parts of Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions of western Rajasthan from July 30. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible in the southern parts of Jodhpur division between July 31 and August 2.

According to the latest weather department alert, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at many places in eastern Rajasthan on July 30 and 31. The threat of very heavy rainfall will persist in eastern Rajasthan on August 1 as well. After this, heavy rainfall activities may continue on August 2 and 3. In western Rajasthan, heavy rainfall is expected on July 30 and 31, very heavy rainfall at isolated places on August 1, and heavy rainfall again on August 2 and 3.

What about Jaipur?

The capital, Jaipur, received its first good rain of the monsoon season on Thursday, drenching the city. The weather suddenly changed in the afternoon, and heavy rain began, accompanied by dense clouds. The downpour lasted for about an hour, causing waterlogging in many parts of the city. Traffic was disrupted due to waterlogging on several major roads, including JLN Marg, Gopalpura Bypass, and Tonk Road. The Sanganer and JLN Marg areas also recorded good rainfall.

What about next five days?

Overall, the beginning of Sawan seems to bring relief to Rajasthan. Due to the impact of the depression, the monsoon is expected to remain active for the next five to six days. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected, especially in eastern and southeastern Rajasthan. Parts of western Rajasthan will also be active. However, the distribution of rainfall will determine how quickly the state's below-normal rainfall gap is reduced.

Strong winds of up to 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, accompanied by thunder and lightning, are expected in many areas during the rain. The Meteorological Department has advised special caution in low-lying areas and waterlogged areas. In the event of heavy rain, strong water flows on underpasses, rivers, streams, and bridges could disrupt traffic.
