Glasgow: India has won another medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Indian weightlifter Raja Muthupandi won the silver medal in the men's 65kg category at the CWG 2026 on Sunday night. He lifted a total of 286 kg in the snatch and clean and jerk.
Who won the gold medal?
Malaysia's Aznil Bin Bidin Muhamed took first place, breaking the world record and winning the gold medal. Bidin lifted 299 kilograms. Papua New Guinea's Morea Baru took the bronze. He was in a tough fight with the Indian until the very end, but Raja ultimately prevailed. With this, India has now won a total of four medals in weightlifting and power weightlifting at these Games.
What about Raja Muthupandi's achievement?
Raja's journey has been full of ups and downs. In 2017, he won medals at the Youth Commonwealth Games and Junior Championships. In 2019 and 2022, he established himself as a rising weightlifter. He missed the 2019 Commonwealth Championships due to a ligament injury. He had to undergo surgery for this injury, which kept him out of action for several days. In 2021, he finished third at the National Championships, but he failed to qualify for the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
