New Delhi: With increasingly hectic lifestyles, alcohol has become a common way for many people to relieve stress, enjoy social gatherings, or relax after a long day. While some believe that moderate daily drinking is safe, the bigger question remains: can any amount of alcohol truly be considered safe?

Is alcohol a habit or necessity?

Alcohol in many nations around the world is a social beverage. It is now widely used at parties, weddings, and office events. It is believed to relieve stress, help sleep, or alter the mood. Few, however, know that alcohol has a direct impact on the brain, liver, heart, and nerves. This effect is variable, depending on the amount and repeated use of the drink.

This is the reason that researchers and doctors have been researching the safe amount of alcohol.

How much is the safe amount of alcohol?

According to the experts of health care field, there is no safe amount of alcohol. It should be remembered that there is no safe amount of alcohol at all. This means that if you drink alcohol daily, you are at risk! There are, however, some recommendations according to which:

  • Men can take 2 pegs of alcohol a day, i.e., 28 grams.
  • Women can consume 1 peg of alcohol a day, i.e., 14 grams.

This is why scientists and doctors have been studying what a safe amount of alcohol is.

Alcohol Type: One drink

  • Beer 330 ml
  • Wine 150 ml
  • Whisky/Rum 30 ml

If you consume more than this, the body is unable to digest and expel the alcohol in time, and the harm starts.

How many drinks does it take to be drunk all day?

Alcohol affects people differently depending on their weight, age, if they are eating or drinking, or what kind of alcohol they have taken.

  • 1 peg - effect 1.5-3 hours
  • 3-4 pegs - effect for 6-8 hours
  • 4 pegs - intoxication for the day (may vary from person to person)

Consuming alcohol on an empty stomach, in large quantities, and on hard liquor (such as whiskey) all make a person more intoxicated.
