Google has launched a new feature in partnership with UIDAI, through which users can save their Aadhaar card details directly in the Google Wallet app. This digital ID will be stored in the phone in a completely secure manner and can be easily used when needed.
What is the facility to save an Aadhaar in Google Wallet?
Through this feature, Aadhaar is saved as a “verifiable credential”. This means that the user can share his information only as per the requirement and not the complete details. This also maintains privacy and makes identity verification easier.
How will this digital Aadhaar work?
Once Aadhaar is saved in Google Wallet, the user can use it for purposes like identification, age verification or filling out online forms. This facility can work both offline and online.
How to save the Aadhar card in Google Wallet?
- First update the Google Wallet app
- Open the app and click on “Add to Wallet” or “
- Select ID or Aadhaar option
- Verify with OTP through UIDAI
- After completion of the process, Aadhaar will be saved in digital form.
On which platform will you get the benefit?
Aadhaar integration has been started with some selected partners, where users will be able to easily verify their identity. Many platforms have been added under this facility.
- According to Google, users on PVR INOX will be able to quickly verify their age through Google Wallet. This will make the process of booking movie tickets and availing rewards easier.
- This feature on Bharat Matrimony will be used as 'Verified Profile', through which users will be able to connect with real and certified people.
- On the Atlys platform, users will be able to fill international visa applications in just one tap, making the process faster and simpler.
- Google has indicated that platforms like MyGate and Snabbit will also be added soon so that the identity of delivery staff and gig workers can be verified securely.
Is it safe?
According to Google, this data is stored in encrypted form on the phone and a password or biometric lock is required to access it. Also, the “selective disclosure” feature gives the user control over what information to share.

With this step the use of digital identity will become easier. Now users will not need to carry a physical copy of Aadhaar everywhere and verification in many services will be faster and more secure than before.
