New Delhi: The monsoon is now in full swing. The IMD has issued a warning for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning across 18 states for Wednesday, June 24. Weather conditions are set to undergo a drastic change across regions ranging from Delhi-NCR and Mumbai to the Northeast and the South.
Where will the heaviest rainfall occur?
The impact will be most significant in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Konkan-Goa, Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, and the hilly regions of Bengal, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected. Parts of Bihar, Odisha, Marathwada, and Andhra Pradesh will also receive rainfall.
Will Delhi residents get relief from the heat?
There will be some relief. A dust storm is expected in the afternoon, followed by thunderstorms and rain. Wind speeds could reach 50 to 80 kmph. The temperature will drop after the rain, bringing respite from the humidity; the daytime temperature will hover around 38 degrees Celsius.

Where in UP will the weather be most severe?
The Meteorological Department has issued a red-alert-like warning for Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Agra, Mathura, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, and Azamgarh. These areas will experience strong winds of up to 90 kmph and heavy rainfall. However, heatwave conditions may persist in some districts of Eastern UP.

The temperature in Patna will rise to 39 degrees Celsius, offering no real relief. Alerts for storms and rain accompanied by strong winds of 50 kmph have been issued for Siwan, Gaya, Samastipur, Vaishali, Purnia, Madhubani, Araria, and Bhagalpur. Crops and kutcha (mud/thatched) houses could sustain damage.

There is a strong likelihood of storms and rain in Jaipur, Udaipur, Bikaner, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Sikar, and Bhilwara. Wind speeds of 60–70 kmph are expected; items kept on rooftops could blow away, so please secure them.

Bhopal will experience thundershowers by the evening. Weather conditions are also expected to deteriorate in Ujjain, Vidisha, Katni, Dhar, Mandsaur, Morena, and Ashoknagar. Light to moderate rainfall is likely in Indore and Jabalpur as well.
How intense is the monsoon in Odisha?
The monsoon has now covered the entire state of Odisha. A 'Yellow Alert' has been issued for Cuttack, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, and Nayagarh. Heavy rain accompanied by lightning is expected to continue until June 27. Fishermen have been advised to stay away from the sea.
