New Delhi: Delhi Metro (DMRC), which is known as the lifeline of Delhi-NCR, is all set to change the pace of the capital once again with its Phase 4. The Delhi Metro Phase 4 is bringing a significant boost to residents living on the border of Northwest Delhi and Haryana.

What about the preparations?

Preparations for trials and opening are currently underway in full swing on the underground and elevated sections of the three priority corridors of Phase 4, Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg (Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Metro), Majlis Park to Maujpur (Aerocity-Tughlakabad Metro Line), and Tughlakabad to Aerocity (Golden Line) (Majlis Park-Maujpur Metro Extension).

To construct this 26-kilometer route, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has sought permission from the forest department to clear approximately 3,500 trees.

What is the route map and connectivity for Phase 4?
According to DMRC and officials involved in the project, work is underway on three main priority corridors under Phase 4, which will connect parts of Delhi that were until now untouched by the metro network or where connectivity was extremely poor:

Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg: According to DMRC and officials involved in the project, this corridor is approximately 29 kilometers long. It will connect areas of outer and northwest Delhi such as Peeragarhi, Mangolpuri, West Enclave, Madhuban Chowk, Prashant Vihar, and Haiderpur Badli Mor, reaching Majlis Park, Azadpur, and directly to RK Ashram Marg in Central Delhi.

Tughlakabad-Aerocity: This all-new corridor, approximately 23 kilometers long, will connect South Delhi directly to Aerocity at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. Its main stations include Tughlakabad, Saket G Block, Khanpur, Chhattarpur, and Mehrauli.

Majlis Park-Maujpur: This is a small but crucial section of approximately 7 kilometers. It will complete the Ring Road loop of the Pink Line. With its completion, areas of North and Northeast Delhi such as Burari, Jharoda, and Wazirabad will be directly connected to the metro network.

How many hours will be saved?

With the launch of Phase 4, there will be direct relief from the heavy traffic jams on the roads of Delhi.

A journey that currently takes one and a half to two hours on the road will now be completed in just 30 to 40 minutes via the Metro. The average commuter will see a direct savings of 1 to 1.5 hours on their daily commute.

Those commuting from Outer Delhi (e.g., Mangolpuri, Burari, Wazirabad) to Central or South Delhi are the biggest beneficiaries. Furthermore, passengers traveling directly to the airport from Faridabad and Tughlakabad will no longer need to travel through Delhi via Dhaula Kuan; they will reach the airport directly via the "Golden Line" in half the time.

Who will benefit the most?

For people who are stuck in traffic for two hours every day, now the journey can be completed in half the time.

Students, working professionals, and women will benefit the most. This is a boon for thousands of students from North and Northwest Delhi who attend major institutions like Delhi University's (DU) North Campus, Jamia Millia Islamia, or JNU. Students coming from areas like Burari and Mangolpuri will no longer need to change buses. They can reach their colleges safely and on time.

Connectivity will be significantly improved for professionals working in the corporate hubs of South Delhi, Noida, and Gurugram. The Aerocity Corridor (Golden Line) will allow IT and aviation professionals to travel without any stress and traffic.
