Major Rule Changes Kick In From August 1: Here's How They Affect You

New Delhi: The month of August has begun with several changes that are set to directly affect the daily lives of common people. New rules for railway Tatkal ticket bookings have come into effect, while those who fail to file their Income Tax Returns (ITR) on time will now face penalties. Commercial LPG cylinder prices have also been reduced. Additionally, financial institutions are implementing the CKYC 2.0 system, which will make the digital sharing of customers' KYC records more efficient and convenient. 

What has changed in Tatkal ticket booking?

Railways has implemented a new token system for passengers taking Tatkal tickets at reservation counters. Now the tokens will be issued at the same time when the Tatkal ticket booking process starts. Its objective is to reduce long queues and control crowding at the counter. Under the new system, tokens will be given from 8:30 to 9:00 am for AC Tatkal tickets and from 9:00 to 9:30 am for non-AC tickets.

After this, the concerned passengers will be able to book tickets on the basis of their token. Railways believes that this will save time for passengers and make the booking process more organised. This change has currently been implemented at the reservation counters of West Central Railway.

Now, how much penalty will have to be paid for late filing of ITR?

The deadline for filing income tax returns has expired for those taxpayers whose accounts were not required to be audited. Now, for filing returns, you may have to pay late fees ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 depending on the income. However, there is still time left for many taxpayers involved in business. The due date for ITR-3 and ITR-4 (unaudited cases) is August 31, 2026, while for audited cases, the deadline is October 31, 2026.

How much relief has been given in the price of commercial gas cylinders?

Like the first of every month, this time too oil marketing companies have released new prices of LPG. The price of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder has been reduced by Rs 202 in Delhi. This is expected to provide relief to hotels, restaurants, dhabas and small businessmen. There has been no change in the prices of 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder this time.
