21 Dead In Malviya Nagar Inferno; PM Narendra Modi Expresses Grief And Announces Relief

At least 21 people died in a massive fire that broke out at a restaurant in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar area on Wednesday morning. Officials said that many people were also injured in the accident.

New Delhi: A massive fire that broke out in a hotel in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar area on Wednesday morning claimed the lives of 21 people, while 37 people were evacuated safely. The accident happened at a time when the people staying in the hotel rooms could not even wake up from their sleep. Within no time, smoke and fire engulfed the building. Many heart-wrenching scenes were witnessed during the relief and rescue operations, including people jumping from windows to save their lives.

How did the chaos arise?

The fire was reported at Lemon Green Inn Hotel, located in Malviya Nagar, at around 9 am. Within a few minutes, smoke spread throughout the building. People staying in the hotel started running here and there to get out. According to eyewitnesses, many people were trapped in the rooms and were screaming for help. The people present on the spot also helped in the rescue work, while the fire department teams continued to rescue people.

Why did the video of women jumping become a topic of discussion?

In the video that surfaced during the accident, two women were seen jumping down from the upper floor to save their lives. Trapped between fire and smoke, these women were left with no other way to get out. Both were immediately taken to the hospital. However, official information regarding his condition has not been revealed.

 

Why are questions being raised about the validity of the hotel?

According to sources, under the Bed and Breakfast scheme of the Delhi government, this establishment was given permission to operate only six rooms. But the investigation has revealed that about 25 rooms were being operated here. Some of these rooms were also made in the basement. After this revelation, serious questions have started being raised regarding adherence to licensing rules and safety standards.

What happened in the rescue operation?

As soon as the Delhi Fire Service received the information, more than ten fire vehicles were sent to the spot. Water tankers, quick response vehicles, and other firefighting equipment were deployed in the initial phase. Firefighters entered the smoke-filled rooms and pulled people out. Many injured have been admitted to Max Hospital, Saket, and AIIMS Trauma Centre.

What did Prime Minister Modi announce?

Expressing grief over the accident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for the families of the deceased. The injured will be given an assistance amount of Rs 50,000 each. In a message released on social media, the Prime Minister expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

 

Currently, the cause of the fire is being investigated. The administration is also trying to find out whether fire safety standards were followed in the hotel or not. The initial facts have raised many serious questions, answers to which can be revealed only after the investigation is completed.
