India Clinches Two Javelin Medals: Neeraj Chopra Wins Silver, Yash Vir Singh Bronze

New Delhi: India created history in the javelin throw event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games with a double-medal finish. Neeraj Chopra returned to action after recovering from injury, while Rajasthan’s Yashveer Singh turned the contest around with a brilliant final throw to secure India's second medal.

Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage of Sri Lanka won. He threw 89.75 metres and won the gold.

What did Neeraj Chopra do?

All eyes were on Neeraj. Last year he was troubled by a back injury. There were also talks about fitness. He couldn't even go 80 metres in qualification. But the real Neeraj was seen in the final. He threw a season-best throw of 85.83 metres and won the silver medal. This comeback after injury was really wonderful.

How did Yashveer Singh do wonders in the final?

Perhaps not many people knew Yashveer's name. Till the last round of the final, he seemed far from the medal. Then came the last chance. And Yashveer threw 85.41 metres. This was the best of his career. With this one throw, he secured the bronze. The crowd was also surprised.
