West Bengal: 12 TMC MPs likely To Join BJP; Big Setback For Mamata Banerjee
After suffering a setback in the elections, TMC's troubles are still increasing. There is a discussion in the political circles that many TMC MPs in the Lok Sabha are joining hands with the BJP.
Kolkata: Big news is coming from Kolkata. After suffering a setback in the Bengal Assembly elections, TMC's troubles are not decreasing. There is a strong discussion in the political circles that many TMC MPs in the Lok Sabha are joining hands with the BJP. It is not just a matter of 1-2 MPs, an entire large section has decided to leave the party.
How many MPs can leave Mamata's side?
Sources are saying that TMC has 29 MPs in the Lok Sabha, out of which about 12 MPs have planned to join BJP or extend support from outside. BJP is also in talks with 5-6 more MPs. That means a total of 17-18 MPs may be defeated.
What is the plan to avoid anti-defection law?
The biggest problem is the anti-defection law. To avoid this, BJP wants at least 19-20 MPs to break together. Only then will the two-thirds mark be met and membership will not be lost. Therefore the whole strategy is to collect this number.
Is Mamata Banerjee aware of this?
It is reported that TMC top leadership has come to know about this possible breakdown. Internal efforts have started to keep the party united. The most shocking thing is that among the MPs who are said to be in touch with BJP, those close to Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee are also included. If this turns out to be true then it will be the biggest blow to Tamas.
What benefit will BJP get from this?
Currently, BJP has 240 MPs in the Lok Sabha and the government is running with the support of NDA. If 12-15 TMC MPs also join BJP then the strength of the party will increase. The biggest benefit will be that BJP's dependence on allies will reduce. The government will look stronger.
Will there be a game in Rajya Sabha also?
If sources are to be believed, after the Lok Sabha, BJP is also eyeing the TMC MPs sitting in the Rajya Sabha. There are preparations for burglary there too. There is also resentment among the leaders regarding the role and working style of I-PAC within the party.
What is the official stand at present?
Till now, no official statement has come from TMC or BJP on this entire matter. Everything is going on "quoting sources". But the political temperature is rising from Delhi to Kolkata. If 20 MPs break together, it will be a bigger blow for Mamata Banerjee than the defeat of 2021.
