Assam: 8-Year-Old Girl Kidnapped, Sexually Assaulted and Murdered, Man Arrested

Sribhumi: A horrifying incident has occurred in the Madanmohan area of ​​Assam's Sribhumi district. A 22-year-old man was arrested for raping and murdering an eight-year-old girl in a forest area. 

Where did the incident happen?

The incident occurred on Wednesday when the accused, who is identified as a 22-year-old-man, lured the girl to a forest area near her home.

According to police, the minor girl had been missing since around 10 am. When she did not return home, her family members searched the area and found her body in bushes on a hillock near their house. 

What did the police say?

Police said she had been raped before being killed. Additional Superintendent of Police Trinayan Bhuyan said that after the girl went missing, the accused went looking for her with his family and pretended to be unaware. He later confessed that he had allegedly been harassed by the girl's father, which led to the incident as retaliation.

"From the preliminary investigation, we have found that an 8-year-old girl who has been missing since 10 am today was allegedly raped and murdered. Her body has been found in the nearby forest area. Her body has been sent for postmortem," Sribhumi Additional Superintendent of Police, Trinayan Bhuyan, said.

Has the police filed a case?

Police has filed a case regarding the incident. Locals found the accused and handed him over to the police, sources said.

The accused admitted to the murder but denied the rape. The girl's body has been sent for a postmortem. The full picture of the case will be clearer once the report is received.

The accused has been charged under sections 103(1) (murder), 141 (kidnapping), 65(2) (rape of a girl under 12) of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.  

Upon learning of the incident, hundreds of local residents protested by blocking the road. The protesters questioned the safety of the children and demanded strict punishment for the perpetrators. The roads were cleared after senior police officials intervened.
