In Punjab, weddings can become a huge financial challenge for poor and needy families. To ease this burden, the Bhagwant Mann government has released Rs 29.33 crore under the Aashirwad Scheme for 5,751 daughters, spreading happiness and supporting daughters from weaker sections.
Bringing Smiles and Relief to Thousands of Families
This initiative is not just a government statistic but a story of joy and relief. Families now can celebrate their daughters’ weddings without falling into debt, giving them dignity and self-respect.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s Vision
Chief Minister Mann emphasizes that Punjab can only prosper when its weakest sections live with dignity. The funds under the Aashirwad Scheme demonstrate the government’s commitment to social justice and inclusive development.
District-Wise Distribution of Funds
Social Justice Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur stated that the Rs 29.33 crore has been distributed to 5,751 beneficiaries across 17 districts, including Barnala, Bathinda, Faridkot, Firozpur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Moga, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Patiala, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar, SBS Nagar, Sangrur, and Malerkotla.
Eligibility and Direct Benefit Transfer
Applicants must be permanent residents of Punjab, belong to Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, or other economically weaker sections, and have an annual family income not exceeding Rs 32,790. Each family can receive assistance for a maximum of two daughters. The financial aid is transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts through DBT, eliminating middlemen and ensuring transparency.
Transforming Lives with Financial and Emotional Support
Receiving Rs 51,000 directly in their bank accounts brings relief to families and empowers daughters. This initiative is more than financial assistance—it is a social message that daughters of poor families are as precious as those from affluent families. It protects families from loans, restores dignity, and reinforces the government’s commitment to welfare.
From Shagun to True Aashirwad
Earlier called the Shagun Scheme, the Aashirwad Scheme now ensures that financial support reaches beneficiaries honestly and directly. With Rs 51,000 per daughter, the scheme impacts families across 17 districts and brings a tangible change to thousands of lives.
A Ray of Hope for Families
This initiative shows that the Punjab government’s welfare schemes are not limited to paperwork but actually bring change. The distribution of Rs 29.33 crore reflects the government’s priority of public welfare, filling the lives of thousands of daughters with happiness and dignity.
