Delhi Airport Scare: Six injured after Swiss airplane catches fire during takeoff
The engine of a Swiss Airlines flight from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport to Zurich, Switzerland, suddenly caught fire during takeoff.
New Delhi: A major plane accident was averted at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday. Swiss International Airlines (SWISS) flight LX147 experienced a malfunction during takeoff, resulting in an engine fire. However, the pilot's presence of mind aborted the takeoff in time. Six passengers were reportedly injured in the incident and have been hospitalized.
According to reports, several fire brigade vehicles were immediately dispatched to the scene to handle the situation. The aircraft involved in the incident is reported to be an Airbus A330-343. This Swiss Air flight was carrying 232 passengers and 13 crew members.

According to reports, the incident occurred while the plane was parked on the runway and preparing for takeoff. As soon as the fire broke out, all passengers were safely evacuated.
As per reports, at least six passengers were injured in the accident and have been hospitalized for treatment. It is being reported that one of the plane's engines malfunctioned before takeoff, leading to the fire. Timely action averted a major tragedy.

What did Delhi Airport say?
In a statement, Delhi Airport provided further details, stating that a "full emergency" was declared for Swiss International Airlines flight LX 147 (Delhi-Zurich) on runway 28/10 early this morning.
According to airport authorities, as soon as the situation arose, all safety protocols were immediately followed, and passengers were safely evacuated. Officials also stated that despite the incident, airport operations continued as normal and there were no disruptions.
Taking to X, Delhi Airport wrote, "In the early hours of this morning, a full emergency was declared at Delhi Airport involving Swiss International Airlines flight LX 147 (DEL-ZRH) on Runway 28/10. All prescribed safety protocols were promptly executed, and passengers were safely evacuated. Airport operations remained unaffected."
