The man who immortalized ‘Don’ is no more; a wave of mourning sweeps the film industry

Veteran filmmaker Chandra Barot, known for directing the iconic film Don, passed away at 86 in Mumbai after battling pulmonary fibrosis for seven years. He was undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Entertainment News: Famous director Chandra Barot, who gave Indian cinema a classic film like 'Don' in 1978, died on Sunday. He had been suffering from a serious disease called pulmonary fibrosis for the last seven years. He was 86 years old at the time of his death. His wife, Deepa Barot, confirmed his death and said that he was undergoing treatment at Guru Nanak Hospital. Earlier, he was also admitted to Jaslok Hospital.

Don’ ranks among Indian cinema’s classics

Chandra Barot's film 'Don' not only gave a new dimension to Amitabh Bachchan, but this film also became a part of the classic list of Indian cinema. This film was later remade several times. Farhan Akhtar made a remake of it in 2006, in which Shahrukh Khan played the lead role.

Farhan Akhtar paid tribute to Chandra Barot on his Instagram and wrote that it was very sad to hear that the director of 'Don' is no more among us. May his soul rest in peace, and my deepest condolences to his family.

 Debuted as a director in 1978 

Chandra Barot started his career as an assistant director with actor-director Manoj Kumar. He collaborated in famous films like 'Purab Aur Paschim,' 'Shor,' and 'Roti Kapda Aur Makaan.' As a director, he debuted in 1978 with 'Don,' which remains his most iconic film. He then directed the Bengali film 'Aashrita' in 1989, which grossed around Rs 3 crore.

His unfinished films include 'Neel Ko Pakadna... Impossible' and 'Hong Kong Wali Script.' He also directed a film called 'Pyar Bhara Dil' in 1991. His contribution to Indian cinema will be remembered for a long time.
