New Delhi: The rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh has issued a public apology after a remark he made during singers Nanku and Karun's concert in Delhi sparked outrage on social media.

A short clip from the show earlier this week went viral, with many viewers calling his on-stage comment distasteful and inappropriate for a public performance.

What exactly happened at the show?

The incident unfolded at a concert in Delhi where Honey Singh was a guest performer. In the viral clip, he made a comment about having sex in a car because of the cold weather, then urged people to “use condoms” and “play safe”. The line was caught on camera and quickly circulated online, drawing backlash from users who called the language crude and unsuitable for a public event.

Many felt the subject could have been addressed without explicit references, particularly at a live concert attended by a mixed audience. Critics argued that public figures need to be mindful of how serious health messages are delivered and where.

What was Honey Singh trying to say?

Responding to the uproar, Honey Singh onn Thursday said his intention was not to offend but to speak about safe sex, especially to a younger audience. He explained that he had recently interacted with gynaecologists and sexologists who raised concerns about unsafe sexual practices among Gen Z and the rising cases of sexually transmitted diseases.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday, Honey Singh shared a video with the caption, "Bhool chuk maaf, my apology"

In the video, the rapper said, "Before going to this show, I had lunch with a few gynaecologists and sexologists, who told me that the current generation is battling sexually transmitted diseases because of unsafe sex. When I went to the show and saw the Gen Z audience, I thought I would give them a message in their language, to not have unprotected sex and to use condoms. I felt I should speak in a way they would understand better, the kind of language that is commonly used in OTT content and films these days, which Gen Z watches a lot."

Did he apologise?

In a video message, Honey Singh said he was genuinely sorry if his words hurt anyone. He admitted that he could have chosen better language and promised to be more careful in future performances, especially in an age where short clips travel faster than context.

How has the response been?

Reactions remain divided. While some fans accepted the apology and supported his intent, others said the episode highlights the thin line between being relatable and being irresponsible on stage.
