India’s mobile exports surge 127 times in a decade, boosting self-reliant growth and global ‘Made in India’ demand.
In the last decade, India’s mobile phone exports surged 127 times to ₹2 lakh crore, while production grew 28 times and manufacturing units 150 times, reflecting government reforms and self-reliance.

Tech News: India Mobile Exports: India has achieved a historic feat in the field of mobile phone manufacturing and export. While the export of mobile phones was only Rs 0.01 lakh crore in the year 2014-15, it has increased to Rs 2 lakh crore in 2024-25. The government gave this information in Parliament on Wednesday. That is, there has been a 127-fold increase in exports in a decade.
Minister of State for Electronics and IT Jitin Prasada said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha that there has been an unprecedented increase in mobile production as well. Mobile production was Rs 0.18 lakh crore in the year 2014-15, which increased to Rs 5.5 lakh crore in 2024-25.
Eliminate dependency on imports
The number of mobile manufacturing units is also projected to grow from just 2 in 2014 to over 300 in 2025, a 150-fold increase. This expansion has almost eliminated India's dependence on imports. While earlier three-fourths of the domestic demand was met through imports, now only 0.02 percent of the total mobile phones sold in India are imported.
Big jump in production too
The overall production of the electronics sector has also seen a big jump. While it was Rs 1.9 lakh crore in 2014-15, it increased to Rs 11.3 lakh crore in 2024-25. Electronics exports also increased eight times to Rs 3.3 lakh crore during the same period.
Employment growth across the country
The government has attributed this success to several major schemes. These include the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC and EMC 2.0), the SPECS scheme to promote electronic components and semiconductor manufacturing, and Public Procurement Order 2017. These schemes have created about 25 lakh direct and indirect jobs across the country. Maharashtra has also played an important role in this development journey. 85 supported manufacturing units, two common facility centers, and one electronics manufacturing cluster have been established here.
Towards becoming a global electronics hub
The government also cited initiatives like Digital India and Skill India as instrumental in this achievement. In Maharashtra alone, more than 53 lakh people have been trained under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan, including about 6 lakh Scheduled Tribe people.
Apart from this, programs like FutureSkills Prime and drone technology training have opened up new employment opportunities for the youth. This change in India has not only taken the country forward towards self-reliance but is also a strong step towards becoming a global electronics hub.
