Android security update: Cyber security agency sends alert to crores of Android users, update your phone immediately before hackers attack
India's cybersecurity agency, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), recently issued an important advisory, detailing several serious security flaws in Android smartphones.

Tech news: India's cybersecurity agency, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), has recently issued an important advisory, in which information has been given about several serious security flaws in Android smartphones. These flaws are affecting devices running on the latest Android version. The agency has given these vulnerabilities a 'high' severity rating, as hackers can misuse them to carry out cyber attacks on the device. Users have been advised to immediately update their devices to the latest operating system (OS) version.
In the advisory issued on Wednesday, CERT-In said that several vulnerabilities have been found in various parts of the 'Android operating system'. These include frameworks, Android runtime, system, Widevine DRM, Project Mainline components, kernel, Arm components, Imagination technologies, MediaTek components, Qualcomm components and Qualcomm closed-source components. These vulnerabilities have been given unique CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures) identifiers.
Can execute arbitrary code
The agency warned that these flaws affect Android versions 13, 14, 15 and 16. The advisory states, “If these vulnerabilities are successfully exploited, an attacker could gain elevated privileges, obtain sensitive information, execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on the target system.” This situation poses a serious threat to users’ privacy and device security.
Immediate Security Patch Update Required
Android has released security patches to fix all the vulnerabilities flagged by CERT-In. Google has instructed its hardware partners to push these updates to users as soon as possible. However, companies like Samsung (One UI), OnePlus (OxygenOS), Xiaomi (HyperOS) roll out updates through their own customized operating systems, which may take some time.
Most Android smartphone users would have received this update by now. Experts have advised that users should check for updates by going to their device's settings and download and install it immediately. If this is not done, hackers can exploit these vulnerabilities to target the device.
Advice for users: Ensure cybersecurity
To avoid cyber attacks, users should always keep their devices updated. In addition, it is important to avoid clicking on unknown links, downloading unverified apps and suspicious websites. This advice from CERT-In once again underlines the importance of cybersecurity. Secure your device by updating immediately and protect your digital world from hackers.
