Relentless rains and floods in Punjab have devastated 12 districts, affecting over 2.56 lakh people. More than 15,000 have been evacuated, while the government intensifies relief and rehabilitation operations.

Punjab News: Punjab is currently facing a huge flood disaster. Rain and river overflows have engulfed 12 districts. In this difficult time, the biggest example of humanity has been presented. The Excise Department has handed over a check of Rs 50 lakh to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. This amount is for those families who lost everything in the flood. Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian says that this contribution is not just money but a message of relief and sympathy.
Thousands were evacuated safely
According to the latest report of relief operations, 15,688 people have been evacuated to safer places so far. Most of them are from Gurdaspur, Ferozepur, and Fazilka. Hundreds of families from Amritsar, Pathankot, and Hoshiarpur have also been evacuated. Villages have been evacuated, and people are taking shelter in schools and community centers. The government has clearly said that no one will be left helpless.
Help is being received in relief camps
129 relief camps have been set up across Punjab to accommodate the families rendered homeless by the floods. 7,144 people are currently staying in these camps. Milk for children, medicines for the elderly, and separate arrangements for women have been made in the camps. Most of the people are a part of these camps in districts like Hoshiarpur, Pathankot, and Ferozepur. Local organizations and social workers have also extended a helping hand here.
Destruction increased in 12 districts
The flood has devastated 1,044 villages in Punjab. One and a half lakh people have been affected in Gurdaspur district alone. The lives of thousands of families in Amritsar, Fazilka, and Pathankot have also been disrupted. Fields have been submerged, cattle have been swept away, and houses have been reduced to dust. The water in these areas is not receding. People are fleeing to safer places in boats and tractor-trolleys.
Deployment of troops and agencies
The state government has deployed Army, NDRF, and BSF teams in the flood-affected areas. 20 teams are continuously engaged in rescue and relief. Army helicopters and boats are evacuating people. Thousands of families have been airlifted so far. Roads have been broken and bridges have been washed away, but rescue teams are working tirelessly day and night.
Huge loss of life and property
29 people have died in this flood devastation. Pathankot, Amritsar, and Barnala have become the most affected districts. Apart from this, three people are still reported missing. Crops have also suffered heavy damage. About 94 thousand hectares of agricultural land have been destroyed. The farmers' year-long hard work was washed away in the blink of an eye.
The government's promise and appeal
Minister Hardeep Mundian has assured that every family will be given relief and full arrangements for rehabilitation will be made. He has also appealed to the central government to immediately release the outstanding amount of Rs 60 thousand crores so that the situation of Punjab can be improved. He has requested the people to come together and support each other in this difficult time.
