Punjab Government releases ₹209 crore relief before Diwali, fulfills promise to flood-hit Sangrur families

The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has disbursed ₹209 crore flood relief before Diwali. Families in Sangrur received aid, ensuring compensation for damaged crops and houses.

Punjab Flood Relief: Fulfilling its promise to provide compensation to flood victims before Diwali, the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has released the first installment of ₹209 crore for the state. Of this amount, ₹3.50 crore will be distributed to affected families in Sangrur district. Punjab Finance and Planning Minister Harpal Singh Cheema launched the compensation distribution by handing over acceptance letters to eight flood-affected families in the Dhuri constituency.

Relief Efforts Under Mission Rehabilitation

On this occasion, Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that 13 cabinet ministers in Punjab are visiting flood-affected areas to distribute relief funds. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann launched Mission Rehabilitation in Ajnala by presenting checks worth ₹5.70 crore to 631 farmers. He stated that for the first time, farmers are being provided compensation of ₹20,000 per acre. Furthermore, ₹40,000 is being provided for each damaged house, up from ₹4,000 previously.

Floods Impact And Relief Operations

Heavy rains and floods have caused significant crop damage across Punjab, as well as damaged many homes and buildings. Damage assessments are underway for affected families and relief funds are being provided. Harpal Singh Cheema stated that the Punjab government has always stood by the people in their joys and sorrows. Accusing the central government of discrimination, he demanded the immediate release of the ₹1,600 crore announced by the Prime Minister.

Flood Control Success in Sangrur District

The Sangrur district administration made impressive efforts to combat the floods. Deputy Commissioner Rahul Chaba stated that despite the Ghaggar River reaching 755 feet of water, not a single embankment breached, which normally breaches at 747 feet. The district administration was widely praised for this success. Following the Punjab government's directives, emergency arrangements were made in a timely manner, which minimized damage.
