Punjab gets Rs 900 crore gift, Mohali to become medical capital under Mann's leadership
Punjab has received a significant gift thanks to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's initiative. Fortis Healthcare has announced an investment of 900 crore rupees to develop Mohali as a medical capital.

Punjab News: A major step has been taken regarding healthcare services in Punjab. Fortis Healthcare has announced an investment of ₹900 crore to expand its Mohali campus. The plan will add over 400 new beds and develop it into a world-class center of excellence on 13.4 acres. The government claims this decision will make Punjab a hub for the medical sector. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann called it a historic step for Punjab's future.
New employment opportunities for youth
This investment by Fortis will open new avenues for employment for the youth of Punjab. The project will create over 2,200 direct jobs and thousands of indirect jobs. The government stated that more than 2,500 people will be directly employed. The Chief Minister said that youth will now have better opportunities in the healthcare industry within their own state. This move will also help prevent youth migration from the state.
State-of-the-art facilities will be included
The new expansion will feature modern ICU facilities, cardiology, oncology, organ transplantation, and robotic surgery. It will include more than 40 superspecialties. The existing Fortis campus already offers 375 beds and 194 ICU beds. Health Minister Sanjeev Arora stated that this expansion will make Punjab the largest healthcare center in North India. He described the plan as tailored to future needs.
The government has shown an active role
The state government's active role in this investment was crucial. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has strengthened the partnership between the private and public sectors. The government has assured the private sector that Punjab is safe for investment. The Health Minister stated that under the PPP model, Punjab will be made a global medical hub. This is why large corporate groups are prioritizing Punjab in the healthcare sector.
Investments already made in Punjab
Fortis Healthcare has invested more than ₹1,500 crore in Punjab since 2013. Large hospitals already operate in Ludhiana, Amritsar, and Jalandhar. Ludhiana boasts a 259-bed superspecialty campus. World-class services are also offered in Amritsar and Jalandhar. Fortis management stated that this network will be further strengthened with the support of the Punjab government.
Direct benefit to citizens
This medical hub will directly benefit the common people of Punjab. The government claims that free or affordable services will reach more people. More than 800 Aam Aadmi Clinics have already been established, providing free medicine and 38 types of tests. Now, citizens in Mohali and other districts will also have access to better facilities near their homes. This step will prove to be a milestone in improving the health of Punjab.
Medical tourism will get recognition
Experts believe this plan will give Punjab a new identity in medical tourism. Modern technology and superspecialty services will attract people from across the country to Punjab. Patients from abroad will also be able to access treatment in Mohali and other cities in Punjab. This will benefit not only the healthcare sector but also the hotel and transportation industries. The Punjab government's vision is for the state to become a leader in healthcare innovation in the future.
