National News: Punjab, once called the “breadbasket” of India, is now set to become a leading global maker of life-saving medicines. Since Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took charge, his goal has been to build a “Rangla Punjab” — a lively and prosperous state. This dream now extends beyond fertile fields to include strong healthcare and fast industrial growth. In earlier times, big industrialists would wait for years just to speak with the government, but the Mann administration has changed that with its honest efforts and quick policies.

A Giant Step Towards Industrial Growth

The major expansion of IOL Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Limited in Barnala, worth nearly Rs 1133 crore (actual investment Rs 1220.83 crore), has made the state proud. This is not just about a factory growing bigger — it is proof of the Mann government’s clear vision and action towards building a stronger Punjab. IOL Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Limited (IOLCP) is expanding its chemical and API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) production unit at Fatehgarh Channa village on Mansa Road in Barnala. With a total investment of Rs 1220.83 crore, the project aims to boost production, add new products, and increase the output of existing ones, leading to greater self-reliance.

Building a Self-Reliant Pharma Hub

IOL Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals, a global name and one of the world’s biggest producers of the painkiller Ibuprofen, is making a huge investment in Barnala with full government support. The Rs 1,220.83 crore project will help the company grow faster and make Punjab stronger in the pharma sector. This investment is not just in machines and buildings, but in the future of the state. The expansion will greatly increase the company’s capacity, helping India depend less on imports for essential drug materials. This is a major step toward the goal of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India). The company plans to set up a new chemical and API unit at Khasra numbers 124, 125, 126, 131, 132, 165, 166, 171, 172, and 208, located along NH-7, Bathinda-Chandigarh Highway, in Village Badbar, Barnala. The plant’s full capacity will include 860 tonnes per day of chemical and API output, a 33 MW co-generation power plant, 483.79 tonnes per day of by-products, and 2250 lakh units per day of formulated medicines.

Focus on Environment and Green Energy

One of the best parts of this project is its focus on nature. The Mann government and the company have made sure that the expansion supports both progress and the environment. A special budget of Rs 13.90 crore has been set aside for protecting air and water quality. Also, the co-generation power capacity is being increased from 17 MW to 29.75 MW, showing a clear commitment to clean energy. This reflects the Mann government’s responsible attitude toward environmental care while promoting growth.

Creating Jobs and a Brighter Future

The Barnala expansion of IOL Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals shows how Punjab is moving ahead with speed and purpose. It promises economic progress, more confidence among people, and new hope for a healthy future. The Mann government’s policies have made Punjab a top destination for investors. By cutting down on red tape and creating an easy system for approvals, the state has opened doors for major projects. Large investments like this bring new opportunities for Punjab’s youth. Thousands of new jobs will be created, changing the lives of many families. The Mann administration has shown that real change comes from honest intent and quick decisions. While improving healthcare across the state, the government is also making Punjab a key pharma center in India. The Barnala project is not only about building a plant — it connects health, growth, and hope. With the Mann government’s strong leadership and IOLCP’s dedication, Punjab is once again on the path to becoming a “Rangla Punjab.” This expansion shows that when leadership is clear and determined, development follows. The IOLCP project stands as a proud symbol of Punjab’s rise — a step that strengthens both the economy and the spirit of its people.
