Punjab News: The Punjab government has once again proved its strong financial management and efficient working. As per the latest reports, the state has achieved an impressive 22.35% rise in GST (Goods and Services Tax) collection during the first half of the financial year 2025–26. From April to September 2025, Punjab’s total GST collection stood at ₹13,971 crores, compared to ₹11,418 crores collected in the same period last year. This growth is much higher than the national average, where the GST growth rate was around 6%.
Punjab’s GST Growth Outpaces the National Average
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema shared that Punjab recorded an additional ₹2,553 crores in GST revenue during the first six months of this year. He said that last year, the GST growth rate for the same period was only 5%, which has now increased to 22.35%. The government’s strict action against tax evasion has been a key reason behind this success. Between April and September 2025, the Taxation Department canceled input tax credit worth ₹246 crores from 1,162 taxpayers and also registered FIRs in major tax fraud cases. Road checking and inspections led to a 134% rise in penalty collection, reflecting the government’s determination to ensure compliance.
Revenue Growth Beyond GST
Apart from GST, Punjab has also seen 10% growth in VAT and Central Sales Tax (CST). The Punjab State Development Tax (PSDT) collection also went up by 11%. Even with challenges like economic slowdowns, reduced consumer demand, and tariff impacts on exports in May 2025, the state managed to reach new heights in revenue generation. Punjab’s performance has outshined many other states, setting a new benchmark for financial discipline and recovery.
Strong Leadership and Transparent Governance
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, Punjab’s financial system has become stronger through transparent policies and committed governance. Their efforts have taken the state’s economy to new heights and improved its financial health. This success is not just due to government efforts but also reflects the trust of the people and the government’s dedication to development and reforms. Punjab’s strong economic foundation will continue to guide the state toward new achievements and growth in the coming years.
