Punjab News: The recent floods in Punjab have caused severe damage to the state’s farmers. Nearly 5 lakh acres of farmland were destroyed, leaving many farmers in serious financial trouble. In this tough time, the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has taken a major step to support farmers. The government announced that free wheat seeds will be provided for the affected 5 lakh acres of farmland. CM Mann said farmers will receive two lakh quintals of wheat seeds, worth about Rs 74 crore, with the entire cost being covered by the state government. This is more than financial help it is a way to help farmers restart their lives and bring hope back to their fields. CM Mann said, “In this difficult time, our government stands shoulder to shoulder with the farmers. Punjab’s hardworking farmers made the country self-reliant in food grains, and now this initiative is to give new strength to their hard work.

Free Seeds to Restart Farming

Through a post on his social media account ‘X,’ the Chief Minister explained that due to the floods, farmers lost crops on 5 lakh acres and cannot afford to buy seeds. Therefore, the government will give seeds free of cost so that cultivation can begin again and farmers can regain stability.

Widespread Damage Across Punjab

The floods affected more than 2,300 villages, impacting nearly 20 lakh people. Tragically, 56 lives were lost, and around 7 lakh people became homeless. In addition, about 3,200 schools, 19 colleges, and 1,400 clinics and hospitals were damaged. Roads measuring roughly 8,500 kilometers were destroyed, and 2,500 bridges were washed away. The total estimated loss is about Rs 13,800 crore, with the actual figure possibly higher.

A New Beginning for Farmers

Despite such huge losses, the Mann Government’s Rs 74 crore aid and free seed program offer hope for the Rabi season. This relief is not just about seeds; it is a promise that the government will stand by farmers during crises. As the farmlands face waterlogging and destruction, these seeds will help bring new harvests and smiles to farmers. The scheme shows that the Mann Government believes Punjab’s strength comes from its farmers, and ensuring their prosperity is the government’s top duty.
