Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur, while tirelessly aiding victims of heavy rains and landslides in Mandi’s Seraj constituency, discovered devastating damage to his ancestral home in Tandi village.

Former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur worked day and night to share the pain and suffering of the people affected by the recent heavy rains and landslides, but when he reached his home after 10 days, he saw that his own house had also been hit by the disaster. While consoling the people, Jairam Thakur was probably unaware that even his own house was not safe.after navigating 25 km of damaged roads, he returned to his ancestral home in Tandi village, only to discover that the disaster had not spared his own property.

Thakur’s old house, a cherished family residence where his brother and relatives live, bore the brunt of the monsoon’s fury. The structure developed visible cracks in its walls, compromising its stability, while the once-lush garden was completely washed away by torrential waters. Social media posts noted that Thakur’s home also lacked water supply for days, with electricity restored only recently, reflecting the widespread infrastructure collapse in the region. The devastation mirrors the plight of many in Seraj, where entire villages face uninhabitable conditions.

Mandi, particularly the Janjehli Valley, has been among the hardest hit, with over 150 homes, 106 cattle sheds, and 14 bridges destroyed. The disaster, triggered by back-to-back cloudbursts, has claimed at least 85 lives across Himachal Pradesh, with Mandi reporting significant losses. Thakur, the state’s first Chief Minister from Mandi, described the destruction as unprecedented in his 28-year career, emphasizing the urgent need to restore roads and essential services like water and electricity
Despite personal loss, Thakur remains focused on his constituents, stating, “We live and die for them.” His emotional resolve, shared via social media, has inspired many, with posts praising his hands-on leadership. He has urged the state government to prioritize road restoration and provide swift relief, while also thanking the Indo-Tibetan Border Police for their efforts
