New Delhi: After a crushing defeat by an innings and 103 runs in the Headingley Test against England, Pakistan has suffered a big loss in the points table of the World Test Championship 2025-27. Pakistan's point percentage (PCT) dropped to 19.05 percent and the team reached the ninth or last position. On the other hand, England is at seventh position with 29.76 percent PCT.

How much loss did Pakistan suffer from the defeat against England?

Pakistan's batting failed miserably in both innings at Headingley. In the first innings the team was limited to 171 runs, while in the second innings it could score only 135 runs. England put a lot of pressure on Pakistan by scoring 409 runs in their first innings and eventually won the match by an innings and 103 runs. With this victory, England got full 12 points in the WTC, while no points were added to Pakistan's account.

How did Pakistan reach the last position?

In the WTC, the position of the teams is decided not only on the basis of total points but also on the basis of point percentage. Pakistan has played seven tests so far. It won two matches while facing defeat in five matches. Points have also been deducted from the team's account due to slow overrate. After the latest defeat, her PCT dropped to 19.05 and she dropped below West Indies.

How much did England's situation improve?

The victory against Pakistan was also important for England. The team's PCT has increased to around 29.76. However, despite so much improvement, England could not move above seventh place. England have played many matches so far in the long WTC cycle and the over-rate related penalty has also affected their points percentage.

What situation is India in now?

India is currently at fifth position. The team has played 10 Tests so far in the WTC cycle, out of which there have been five wins, four losses and one draw. India's PCT is 53.33. The recent Test win against Sri Lanka has given the team the necessary points, but in the current equation, India is still out of the top four.

Which teams remain on top?

Australia is currently leading the WTC table. After that comes South Africa and New Zealand. Bangladesh also remains in a strong position. The challenge for India is to move up the PCT by winning consecutively in the upcoming Test series, as every match in the last round becomes important to reach the WTC final.

What is the way forward for Pakistan now?

Pakistan still has a chance to make a comeback, but for this it will have to register consecutive wins in the remaining matches. The next matches of the series against England have special importance for him. Another defeat could push the team further away from the race for the top two, while consecutive wins could see an improvement in the PCT. The equation changes with the outcome of every match in the WTC, so there is now very little room for mistakes for Pakistan.
