Rishabh Pant has stepped down as Lucknow Super Giants captain, the franchise confirmed on Friday, May 29. The wicketkeeper-batter made the decision following two consecutive failed campaigns with the side, requesting to be relieved of his duties with immediate effect; a request the franchise accepted.

Pant arrived at LSG with enormous expectations. Lucknow splashed Rs. 27 crore on him at the IPL 2025 mega auction, making him one of the most expensive buys in the tournament's history. The hope was that his aggressive brand of cricket and natural leadership would drag the franchise into contention. It never happened.
