Delhi Capitals batsman Abishek Porel was full of optimism regarding the team's chances of making it to the playoffs of IPL 2025, even after losing to Gujarat Titans on Sunday, May 18. The 10-wicket win for the Titans has left DC in a vulnerable spot with only a single position remaining to battle for. DC will now fight tough with Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants for the precious third position. Porel, however, is still optimistic that his team could make it to the playoffs if they make the most out of their chances in the remaining two matches.
Analyzing the Match
Porel complimented the batting of GT, and stated, "They played very well actually. In the first innings, the ball used to hang a little in the initial stages, and that dictated the way we used to play then. But after that, the wicket was superb." He also admitted that DC had played good cricket, but fell short because of some phases where they were a bit behind.
Mind the next two matches
Porel also laid emphasis on the fact that DC has still two chances to qualify for the playoffs. "We played good cricket. We did not play poor cricket. We still have two opportunities. Even though we win two-on-two, we still have chances to qualify. So, there is no such ground challenges," he asserted.
Flexibility is key
DC has tried seven opener pairs in the IPL 2025 season so far, with Porel among those who have batted in various spots. Asked if he has a preference, Porel simply said it was up to the team management. "It's totally in the hands of the team management." It's not my decision. I will play wherever the team management requires me to play".
Playing for the team
Porel's first priority is to play good cricket for the team and score runs. "My role is to score good cricket for the team and provide runs for them. It can't be my desire – whatever the team instructs me to do, I have to go along with that," he explained.
What's next?
DC will play Mumbai Indians on Wednesday, May 21, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The game is sure to be a thrilling match, with both teams competing for a playoff spot. Even after losing to GT, Delhi Capitals are hopeful to make it to the playoffs. With two games remaining, the team will have to seize their opportunities and play well in order to qualify for the next round.
