BCCI Confirms Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli Available for ODI Cricket in 2027 World Cup Push

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has put an end to swirling rumors about the future of cricketing giants Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). Speaking to reporters in London, BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla confirmed that both players remain fully available for the ODI format, delighting fans eager to see them lead India toward the 2027 World Cup. This announcement follows their retirements from T20 Internationals after the 2024 T20 World Cup triumph and from Test cricket in May 2025, ahead of India’s England tour.

BCCI Confirms Virat and Rohit for ODI in 2027

Rohit and Virat, both former captains, have transitioned into one-format players, dedicating their international careers solely to ODIs. Their decision to step away from T20Is came after leading India to glory in the 2024 T20 World Cup, while their Test retirements shocked fans, especially after lackluster performances during the 2024-25 Australia tour. Shukla emphasized BCCI’s policy of not dictating retirement decisions, stating, “It’s up to the players, and Rohit and Virat made their own choices. 

No Retirement for Virat and Rohit in ODIs

Kohli has amassed 14,181 runs in 302 ODIs at an average of 57.88, with 51 centuries, while Rohit has scored 11,168 runs in 273 matches at an average of 48.76, including 32 hundreds. Their recent contributions in the 2025 Champions Trophy victory underscore their value as India prepares for upcoming series against Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand in 2025-26

With 27 ODIs scheduled before the 2027 World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, Rohit and Kohli are poised to mentor a young squad while chasing another global title.
