Delhi Police has got a new clue in the investigation of Jantar Mantar protest. On the basis of food wrappers found in the garbage, the police are now checking the delivery records.
New Delhi: The investigation into the ongoing 'Citizens for Justice and Peace' (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar has now reached a new turn. Delhi Police adopted a different approach to identify people and organisations delivering food to the protesters. During the investigation, food wrappers, disposable packets and packaging materials found at the protest site were used as clues. On the basis of these, the police reached the concerned restaurants and food outlets and started collecting information related to the orders from there.
How did food wrappers become an important clue in the investigation?
According to officials associated with the investigation, during the search of the protest site, a large number of wrappers from different restaurants and food chains were found. Police collected these packaging materials and traced their source. After this, the concerned food outlets were contacted and an attempt was made to know who had placed the order, through what means of payment and to which address the food was delivered. Investigating agencies are looking into this entire episode by linking it to the financial and logistics support of the protest.
Are delivery records also being scrutinised?
Sources say that the police are not limited to restaurants only. Records related to food delivery, digital payment details and order history have also been included in the scope of investigation. Officials believe that from this information it can become clear who was arranging food during the demonstration and whether any organisation or individual was behind it or not. On this basis, the direction of further investigation will be decided.
Why is investigation already going on regarding the demonstration?
Many aspects are already being investigated regarding this demonstration at Jantar Mantar. The police is trying to find out whether the conditions of permission for the event were followed or not, how many people participated and where the resources for the conduct and arrangements of the event came from. In this sequence, food supply has also been made a part of the investigation. Officials say that in any major event, information about financial and logistics networks is a normal part of the investigation.
Are restaurants or delivery agencies also under scrutiny?
According to police sources, at present the restaurants or food delivery companies have not been considered accused. They are only being asked for information related to the order so that it can be found out who the person or organisation was that placed the order. The focus of the investigating agencies is currently on understanding the supply chain and collecting facts related to it.
In which direction can the investigation proceed further?
The team involved in the investigation is now matching the collected documents and digital records. If records related to orders, payments and deliveries reach any person or organisation, then they can be interrogated. At present, the police have officially shared only limited information on the entire matter, but the investigation is continuing. It is believed that more facts may come to light in the coming days, which will make it clear whose role was behind the arrangements for the demonstration and how the entire network was working.
