When Is Sawan 2026? Check Shravan Month Date And All Sawan Somwar

New Delhi: As soon as Sawan arrives, it seems as if the entire atmosphere has become Shiva-filled. Trees and plants turn green, there is drizzle throughout the day and the sound of "Bam Bam Bhole" starts coming from the Shiva temple in every street and locality. This month is the most awaited time of the year for Shiva devotees.

How long will Saavan 2026 last?

According to the calendar, this time the month of Shravan is starting from Thursday, July 30, 2026. And it will conclude on Friday, August 28, 2026, the day of Rakshabandhan. Meaning there will be an atmosphere of devotion for the entire 30 days. During these 30 days, people will go to the temple early in the morning after taking bath, perform Jalabhishek and keep their vows in front of Lord Shiva.

How many Sawan Mondays will fall this time?

Sawan Monday has the most importance. This time a total of 4 Mondays are falling and all four are special in themselves.

After all, why was Sawan chosen for Shiva worship?

There are two big stories behind this. The first story is related to Maa Sati. It is believed that Maa Sati had performed very difficult penance in the month of Sawan to get Lord Shiva as her husband. Seeing her devotion and dedication, Lord Shiva accepted her as his wife. Since then this month became a symbol of the union of Shiva and Parvati.

The second story is of the churning of the ocean. When the gods and demons churned the ocean, the first poison to emerge was Halahala. By drinking that poison, Lord Shiva saved the whole world. But due to the poison, his throat turned blue and the heat in his body increased. Then the gods offered water to cool them down. From that very day the tradition of offering water to Shivalinga started.

What is the correct method of worship in Sawan?

It is important to wake up early in the morning and take bath. Then wear clean clothes and go to Shiva temple. First offer water to Shivling, then milk, curd, honey. After this offer Belpatra, Dhatura, Bhang and flowers. Keep chanting “Om Namah Shivay” while performing puja. People who have faith also observe fast by eating fruits the whole day. Do not forget to perform Aarti by lighting a lamp in the evening.

A small Vastu remedy for the house in Saavan

Elders say that the north-east direction of the house should be kept clean in Saavan. Keep Ganga water in a small bottle there. 

And every Monday, light a lamp of cow ghee at the main door of the house. This removes negativity from the house and brings happiness and peace. Overall, Saavan is not just a month. This is a time of faith, peace and connecting with nature. Going to Shiv temple drenched, plucking Belpatra and saying “Har Har Mahadev”… this is the real beauty of Saavan.
