Shehzad Poonawalla Submits Resignation to Nitin Nabin for Second Time, Cites Personal and Financial Reasons
Poonawalla tried to make it clear in his message that his decision to withdraw from the party organisation is not a change in his stand towards the BJP leadership or Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
New Delhi: BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala on Monday again expressed his decision to separate from the party. He once again sent his resignation letter to BJP President Nitin Nabin and clearly said that this time it should be accepted. Poonawala has expressed his desire to give up active primary membership along with all party posts. Earlier also on July 30, he had resigned, but then the party leadership had asked him to change his decision.
What did Poonawala say this time?
Poonawala said in a social media post that he has again sent his resignation to the party president. According to him, last time the party had not accepted the resignation and had asked him to consider the decision. After this, he took a long time to reconsider his decision and has now said that it will be finalised.
What was the reason given for resignation?
Poonawala has mentioned personal and financial circumstances in his letter. He said that in the current circumstances it is difficult for him to continue his active party responsibilities. He also indicated that he may move towards working in the private sector in the future.
Poonawala also mentioned some incidents that took place in the last few days in his letter. However, he did not make public the names of those involved nor did he reveal what events solidified his decision.

Are you completely breaking ties with the party?
Poonawalla tried to make it clear in his message that his decision to withdraw from the party organisation is not a change in his stand towards the BJP leadership or Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that he is separating from the system of the organisation but not from the person and ideas.
Apart from Prime Minister Modi, he expressed gratitude to senior party leaders including Nitin Nabin, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda and BL Santosh. Poonawala said that BJP gave him a platform to work and many opportunities, for which he is grateful to the party.
What will Shehzad Poonawala do next?
After his resignation, Poonawala has indicated plans to join the private sector. He has also said that wherever possible, he will continue to support Prime Minister Modi's vision and the work of BJP. That is, despite being out of active organisational role, his political stance does not seem to be changing completely at the moment.
Now what will be the next step of BJP?
At present the biggest question is whether the BJP leadership accepts Poonawala's resignation this time or asks him to reconsider like before. For the first time, after his resignation, the party had tried to stop him. This time Poonawala has appealed to accept the resignation, calling his decision final.
