National News: Satish Golcha, a 1992 batch IPS officer, has been appointed as the new Police Commissioner of Delhi. This appointment has come at a time when questions are being raised about the law and order in the capital, especially after the attack on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
Official announcement of the appointment
In an order issued by the Home Ministry, it was stated that Satish Golcha, a 1992 batch AGMUT cadre officer, will now be the chief of Delhi Police. He was till now working as the Director General (Prisons) of Delhi. Now he will replace SBK Singh, who was temporarily handling the charge of Police Commissioner.
The order said that with the approval of the competent authority, Satish Golcha is appointed as the Delhi Police Commissioner. His appointment will be effective from the date of assuming charge and will continue till further orders.
Long experience in the police department
Satish Golcha has three decades of experience in the police department. He has not only held several important positions in the Delhi Police but has also served in the CBI. He has worked in areas like intelligence, crime, law and order, and prison administration, which has given him experience in understanding the complex security challenges of the capital.
Action Follows Attack On CM
This leadership change has come at a time when Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked at her Civil Lines residence on Wednesday. She was conducting a public hearing to listen to the grievances of the public when suddenly a man raised his hand on her.
The attacker identified himself as the petitioner and slapped the Chief Minister, pulled his hair, and pushed him. The guards acted swiftly and caught the accused.
Identification of the accused
The attacker has been identified as Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakaria, 41, a resident of Rajkot, Gujarat. He was immediately arrested, and a case of attemptedmurder has been registered against him under several sections of the IPC.
Statement of Chief Minister
Chief Minister Gupta condemned the attack and called it a "cowardly act." He said, "Such attacks cannot weaken my spirit of service. I will be present among the people with more dedication and energy than ever before."
