Rain brings relief from intense heat in Delhi; 'Extremely Severe Alert' for thunderstorm, lightning, hailstorm
IMD has issued emergency weather warning for Delhi and surrounding areas and predicted severe dust storms and heavy downpours.
Delhi : NCR got relief from the scorched heat as weather suddenly turned. Areas such as RK Puram, India Gate, and Ghaziabad faced high winds and heavy rainfall.
As per the IMD, several districts of Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand are in under red and orange alert. According to official weather reports, such states faced 100 kmph of high wings causing severe dust storm, moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
Delhi on alert for next 2 hours?
Weather will be abnormal for next 2 hours, However Metereological Department has warned to be aware during thunderstorms, fierce lightning strikes and intense thunderclaps. It can be potentially destructive and dangerous.
Why these Mobile Alerts?
Government has sent mobile alerts to the people residing in such regions to take protective measures, on prior basis. Government Alert mentioned "Extremely Severe Alert: Over the next 3 hours, thunder and lightning along with a severe dust storm/gale (wind speeds of 60–80 km/h, gusting up to 90 km/h), moderate to heavy rain, and hailstorms are expected at isolated places in your district."
How this Sharp drop in Temperature?
The biggest impact will be that the temperature could rapidly drop to 23–25°C, which was earlier 35-40°C. It means, people get substantial relief from the prolonged severe hot weather, causing uncomfort to the residents. Although, IMD warned to take preventive measuresa and avoid to go outside during this period of time.
Rain Alert, but How many days?
According to the IMD, weather patterns are shifting across several parts of the country. The heatwave over central India has weakened, and other regions are expected to get relief soon. Furthermore, on May 30 and 31, thunderstorms, lightning, and rainfall activities accompanied by gusty winds are likely to increase across northwest, central, and eastern India. In this scenario, the weather shift in Delhi-NCR is not just temporary relief but a sign of changing weather across entire North India.
