Kolkata: Following its defeat in the West Bengal Assembly Elections, the Trinamool Congress (TMC ) is witnessing its biggest political rebellion yet. While many former party MLA's and MP's have formed separate factions. Amid this significant crisis, two prominent TMC leaders, Shatrughan Sinha and Kirti Azad have made it clear that they stand with former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

What did Shatrughan Sinha say?

TMC MP from Asansol, Shatrughan Sinha, who is also known as "Bihari Babu", on Thursday put an end to all speculation about joining the rebel faction.

While speaking to media, actor-turned-politician said that he would not abandon TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee in difficult times, stating that she had stood by him when he was going through a challenging phase.

“I will not leave Mamata Banerjee in her difficult time. She stood by me when I was facing a tough time after losing the election in Patna,” Sinha said.

Sharing about the offer of joining revel faction, Shatrugan Sinha said that, “I am grateful to those who invited me to join the TMC rebel group, but my principled stand is I should stand by Mamata Banerjee now. As of now, I won’t change my path,” he said.

What did Kirti Azad say?

Amid growing speculation of a split within the Trinamool Congress, senior TMC leader and MP Kirti Azad has dismissed claims of a rebellion, calling the alleged breakaway lawmakers "traitors" rather than rebels.

 

Referring to the Lok Sabha MP Kalyan Banerjee as a “fighter”, Azad said that he was “justified” in his anger against the party, but added that he would not leave the TMC.
