Odisha: The sacred Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra, set for June 27, 2025, in Puri, Odisha, is expected to draw over one lakh devotees to witness the grand procession of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra. Starting with rituals like Snana Purnima on June 4, the nine-day festival will see the deities’ chariots roll down the Bada Danda to the Gundicha Temple, ending with the Bahuda Yatra on July 5. To ensure a safe and joyful experience, Odisha authorities have rolled out extensive plans for security and devotee comfort.

Tightened Security Measures

DGP announced the deployment of 180 platoons, including special units, across the town. AI-powered CCTV cameras, drone surveillance, and coastal patrols will monitor crowds and prevent incidents like stampedes. The police have also set up control rooms and increased personnel at key spots like the Jagannath Temple and Grand Road to manage the massive influx of pilgrims.

Special Arrangements for Devotees

To make the festival welcoming, Odisha has planned several devotee-friendly measures. Drinking water stations and ORS distribution points will be available along the procession route to combat the summer heat. Shuttle services will run from parking areas like Talabania to Zilla School Chhaka, easing travel for visitors. Temporary shelters, medical camps, and mobile toilets will be set up near the temple and Gundicha Temple. The state has also ensured extra buses and trains to Puri, with clear signboards to guide first-time visitors.

Community and Tradition

The Rath Yatra is a time of unity, with devotees from across India pulling the chariots and chanting prayers. The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration is working with local groups to maintain cleanliness and manage crowds. Volunteers will assist elderly and differently-abled devotees, ensuring everyone can participate in the sacred rituals like the Pahandi and chariot-pulling.

A Safe and Joyful Celebration

Puri’s preparations reflect Odisha’s commitment to honoring Lord Jagannath’s legacy while keeping devotees safe and comfortable. With robust security and thoughtful facilities, the 2025 Rath Yatra promises to be a spiritual and memorable event.
