230 roads closed–116 dead… landslides and floods wreak havoc in Himachal; loss of Rs 1220 crore so far
Floods and landslides have unleashed large-scale devastation in Himachal Pradesh. Over 230 roads remain blocked, 116 lives have been lost, and economic damages have crossed ₹1,220 crore

National News: Monsoon havoc continues in Himachal Pradesh. More than 230 roads are closed due to continuous rain and landslides. 81 power distribution transformers and 61 water supply facilities are disrupted. 121 roads in Mandi district, 23 in Kullu, and 13 in Sirmaur district are closed. The Meteorological Department has issued orange and yellow alerts for heavy rain in different parts of the state for the next three days.
So far, 116 people have died in the state due to the monsoon. Out of these, 68 deaths have been directly caused by disasters caused by monsoon rains, while 48 people have died in other rain-related incidents, in which bad weather and visibility have been held responsible. SEOC said that about 199 people have been injured, while 35 are missing.
These districts are most affected
Mandi, Kangra, and Kullu districts are the worst affected by the monsoon havoc. These districts have suffered the most damage in terms of infrastructure and loss. Today, 19 July alone, 153 roads are closed in Mandi. 39 roads are closed in Kullu. NH-707 has been closed near Hevna due to a landslide in Sirmaur. The administration is continuously trying to restore these services. Along with this, construction work on damaged structures is also going on.
Rain alert for Sunday too
According to the Meteorological Department, a warning of heavy rain has been issued in different areas of the state in the coming days. A yellow alert has been issued warning of heavy rain in some places of the state till Sunday.
Loss of 1220 crores so far
According to information, Himachal Pradesh witnessed 31 flash floods, 22 cloudbursts, and 19 landslides this monsoon, and the state has suffered losses of more than Rs 1,220 crore. The administration has appealed to the people to remain alert. They have been asked to step out of their homes only when necessary. They have also been asked to avoid danger near rivers and other water sources. Relief and rescue operations are underway with the help of NDRF, SDRF, and local administration.
