Governor Accepts Siddaramaiah's Resignation as Karnataka Chief Minister; To Continue As Caretaker
Siddaramaiah on Thursday resigned as the Chief Minister of Karnataka and submitted his resignation letter to the Governor’s special secretary as Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot was not in Bengaluru.
Bengaluru: A day after the Congress leader stepped down following directions from the party high command, Karnataka Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot accepted the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru on Friday, dissolving the council of ministers with immediate effect.
When did Siddaramaiah resign?
Siddaramaiah on Thursday resigned as the Chief Minister of Karnataka following a high-level meeting convened by the state government and submitted his resignation letter to the Governor’s special secretary as Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot was not in Bengaluru.

What did the official statement say?
Siddaramaiah will now continue to be caretaker Chief Minister till his successor is appointed. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar will succeed Siddaramaiah.
According to an official order issued from Lok Bhavan, Siddaramaiah will continue in office until alternative arrangements are made.
"In exercise of the powers conferred on me under Article 164(1) of the Constitution of India, I, THAAWARCHAND GEHLOT, Governor of Karnataka, have accepted the resignation of Siddaramaiah, Chief Minister of Karnataka and dissolved the Council of Ministers headed by him with immediate effect. Siddaramaiah shall continue to function as Chief Minister till alternative arrangements are made," the official order stated.
Did Siddaramaiah meet Rahul Gandhi?
On Friday morning, Siddaramaiah met Rahul Gandhi at Sonia Gandhi’s 10, Janpath residence. He was accompanied by his son Yathindra.

Did Siddaramaiah meet Kharge?
Later, Siddaramaiah met Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and discussed the new government formation in Karnataka and his future role in the party.
In Delhi, after meeting Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Karnataka outgoing Siddaramaiah met and held discussions with AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge.
