Trump Hits India Hard Over Russia Ties, Imposes 25% Tariff And Penalty
Donald Trump has announced a 25% tariff on India from August 1 and additional penalty for oil and military purchases from Russia. He described India's high tariff rates and growing relations with Russia as against America.

National News: Trump Tariff on India: US President Donald Trump made a big announcement saying that India will now pay a 25% tariff to America from August 1. Along with this, an additional penalty will also be imposed on India for purchasing oil and military equipment from Russia. Trump shared this information on his social media platform, 'Truth Social.'
According to Trump, trade between India and the US has been very low for years because India's tariff rates are very high and its non-monetary trade barriers are also very complex and objectionable. He also said that India is buying huge quantities of oil and military equipment from Russia, which weakens America's campaign against the Ukraine war.
'An additional fine will also have to be paid': Trump
He also added that India will now pay a tariff of 25% from August 1 and will also have to pay an additional penalty, which will be the cost of its relationship with Russia. Trump wrote that India has long been dependent on Russia for its military needs and is currently the largest buyer of energy from Russia. They have been buying huge amounts of military equipment from Russia and are the largest buyer of energy along with China, at a time when the whole world wants Russia to stop killing in Ukraine, all these things are not right!
The new rate will be applicable from August 1
Trump clarified that these tariffs and penalties will come into effect from August 1. He appealed to American citizens and the global community to pay attention to this issue and ended his speech with the slogan 'MAGA!' (Make America Great Again!).In another post, Trump also expressed concern about the huge trade deficit between the US and India and said that India imposes very high tariffs on the US, which is unfair.
Trump had already warned
It is worth noting that Trump had indicated on Tuesday itself that he was considering imposing a tariff of 20 to 25 percent on India. He had said that India has been a good friend, but it imposes the highest tariff on America… you cannot do this. Earlier this month, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal had said that India does not enter into any trade agreement under the pressure of deadlines, and it will accept the deal only if it is in the national interest and is fully concluded.
Tariff Reduced From 26% To 25%
In Trump's 'Liberation Day' announcement, India was initially supposed to pay a 26% tariff, but amid global pressure, the US had given a 90-day extension. This deadline ended on July 9, and another extension was given till August 1. But this decision has now been taken, as India has not finalized the final agreement.
