Delhi BJP Govt’s Big Move: Direct Funds for Kanwar Yatra via Kanwar Sanghs
In a significant step to enhance the Kanwar Yatra experience, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Delhi, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced two major decisions during a cabinet meeting.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Delhi, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, announced two pivotal decisions to enhance the Kanwar Yatra during the auspicious month of Sawan.
Empowering Kanwar Sanghs
The first major decision involves a shift in funding for the Kanwar Yatra, a significant pilgrimage where devotees carry holy water to offer at Shiva temples. Previously, funds were routed through local authorities, often leading to delays and mismanagement. Now, registered Kanwar Sanghs—community organizations managing yatra logistics—will receive financial aid directly via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). This ₹50 crore initiative ensures transparency, enabling Sanghs to arrange facilities like tents, medical camps, and food stalls efficiently. Chief Minister Gupta emphasized that empowering Sanghs will enhance devotee comfort and preserve the yatra’s spiritual essence.\
Enhanced Security Measures
The cabinet approved deploying 5,000 additional police personnel along key routes, supplemented by drone surveillance and CCTV monitoring. Special traffic plans will minimize disruptions, with dedicated lanes for Kanwariyas. The government also plans to coordinate with Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to ensure safe passage for pilgrims traveling to Haridwar. These measures aim to prevent accidents and maintain harmony, given past incidents of friction during the yatra.
A Devotee-Centric Approach
The decisions reflect the BJP government’s commitment to facilitating a smooth and safe pilgrimage. By bypassing intermediaries, the direct funding model ensures resources reach grassroots organizers. The enhanced security framework addresses safety concerns, fostering a peaceful environment. Local Sanghs have welcomed the move, noting it will improve facilities like clean water and sanitation, critical for devotees’ well-being.
Sawan 2025: A Grand Pilgrimage
As Sawan approaches, Delhi’s preparations signal a renewed focus on devotion and discipline. The BJP government’s proactive steps are set to make the 2025 Kanwar Yatra a model of efficient management, deepening the spiritual experience for millions while showcasing administrative excellence.
