The 148th Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra in Ahmedabad turned chaotic when an elephant leading a procession of 17 others went out of control at 10 am in the Khadia area. The sudden agitation of the lead elephant sparked a stampede, with devotees and onlookers scattering in panic. The annual chariot festival, a vibrant celebration drawing thousands, was briefly disrupted as authorities worked to restore order, highlighting the risks of involving large animals in crowded events.

A Festive Procession Disrupted

Eyewitnesses reported the animal trumpeting loudly and veering off the designated path, causing alarm among the dense crowd. The ensuing stampede lasted several minutes, with people running to avoid potential harm. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, but the incident halted the procession for nearly 15 minutes, disrupting the festive rhythm of the chariot pulling.

The agitated elephant was calmed by its mahout and guided to a secure area, while the remaining elephants were kept under close watch to prevent further unrest.
