Big Relief for Heart Patients in Punjab: Free Treatment Worth ₹30,000
Punjab’s border district Gurdaspur has witnessed a life-saving revolution, as free emergency heart-attack injections worth ₹30,000 are now available, saving multiple lives within a month at two major hospitals.

National News: In a groundbreaking step, Punjab government has introduced free life-saving injections for heart attack patients in Gurdaspur district hospitals. The scheme ensures immediate treatment without financial burden, targeting critical emergencies efficiently. District Hospital Babri Gurdaspur and Mata Sulakhni Civil Hospital Batala have begun administering these injections. Both hospitals are now equipped to respond swiftly to cardiac emergencies, drastically improving survival rates in rural regions.
Rapid Diagnosis Through WhatsApp Support
The initiative uses WhatsApp to send ECG scans to expert doctors at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital Amritsar and DMC Ludhiana. Specialists guide local doctors instantly, ensuring precise and timely treatment for critical patients. The injection, costing around ₹30,000 in the market, is now completely free. Patients no longer face the crippling financial stress during emergencies, a major relief for low-income families in border districts.
Seven Lives Saved In A Month
Within just one month of launch, five patients at Babri Gurdaspur and two at Batala have survived heart attacks thanks to this intervention. Families credit the government’s move as a “miracle of hope.” After stabilizing patients with this injection, they are referred to larger hospitals in Amritsar or Ludhiana for advanced care. This step bridges the critical gap between emergency and specialized treatment in Punjab.
Government’s Focus On Rural Health
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government aims to expand this facility across more districts soon. Officials stress this is part of a larger push to improve healthcare in underserved border areas.
