Venezuela, Japan, India’s Pulwama Shaken by Earthquakes; Residents in Panic

Two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela around 6 pm on Wednesday. These tremors, occurring just seconds apart, shook the entire country and spread panic among the people.

Moron: From South America to Asia, the earth shook in many places. Venezuela was the hardest hit, where two powerful earthquakes struck within minutes, causing numerous buildings to collapse. Furthermore, in India, the tremors were felt in Jammu and Kashmir' Pulwama on Thursday morning. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the intensity of the tremor in Pulwama was measured at 3.5 on the Richter scale.

What about Venezuela?

Two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela around 6 pm on Wednesday. These tremors, occurring just seconds apart, shook the entire country and spread panic among the people. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the first quake was of magnitude 7.2, while a second, more powerful tremor of magnitude 7.5 was felt moments later. Both were centered around Morón.

The first quake struck at a depth of 22 kilometers, and the second at 10 kilometers. These tremors caused panic in many areas, including the capital, Caracas. People rushed out of buildings to save their lives.

What did the officials say?

According to officials, the earthquake was so strong that a 22-story building collapsed in Caracas. Numerous buildings and homes were also damaged. 

Venezuela's Interior Minister stated that relief and rescue operations were underway in several areas. People have been urged to stay indoors for the time being due to the possibility of aftershocks.

The US Pacific Tsunami Warning Center also issued a tsunami alert for the Virgin Islands, although the warning was later lifted for some areas.

Where were tremors felt in India?

According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS) in India, earthquake was recorded at many places in Jammu and Kashmir and Assam.

What about Japan?

A 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck northeastern Japan on Thursday morning. The epicenter was near the Pacific coast of Iwate Prefecture. The quake measured 50 kilometers deep. Strong tremors were felt in many areas. Transport services were briefly disrupted. Officials did not report any tsunami threat.

In Japan, strong tremors forced people out of their homes and offices. In India, the earthquake was felt in several areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Assam. Nepal also experienced tremors, although no major damage has been reported in India or Nepal.
