Putin’s December India Visit To Strengthen Strategic Ties Amid Trump’s Tariff Move On Imports
Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed his December visit to India, highlighting his eagerness to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The trip comes amid Donald Trump’s tariff hike, signaling deeper cooperation ahead.

Putin Visit to India: Russian President Vladimir Putin has officially confirmed his visit to India. Speaking to the media, he stated that he will visit India in early December and is excited to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Putin described PM Modi as his "dear friend" and trusted partner. This visit comes at a time when US President Donald Trump has announced a 50% import duty on India. The purpose of Putin's visit is to further strengthen the strategic and economic partnership with India.
Putin confident about India-Russia relations
Recalling the historical ties between India and Russia, Putin said that the friendship between the two countries dates back to the Soviet era. He said, "I look forward to my visit to India in early December and to meeting with my dear friend, our trusted partner, PM Modi." He also said that India has always firmly resisted US pressure and continued energy trade with Russia.
India Stands Firm Amid Pressure
Putin praised India's energy policy under Prime Minister Modi, saying that India would have been affected by US sanctions, but India made a wise decision. Will India abandon our energy resources? If it does so, it could lose up to $9-10 billion. But if it doesn't, sanctions will be imposed on it, and the losses will be equal. So, even if there is a domestic political cost, why should India back down? The Indian people will never allow themselves to be humiliated. I know Prime Minister Modi, and he too would not make such a decision.
Plan to improve trade balance
Putin also stated that Russia will work to balance trade with India. He stated that Russia now plans to purchase more agricultural products and medicines from India. He further stated that India can compensate for the losses incurred by US tariffs by importing Russian crude oil. This will also enhance India's global standing as a sovereign nation.
President Putin's visit to India signals a deepening strategic relationship between the two countries. India's continued support of Russia despite US pressure indicates New Delhi's move toward self-reliance and an independent foreign policy in global politics.
